Unix has always hidden some files/folders from normal view, mainly to avoid clutter.
These are, of course, undocumented - well, pretty much the whole MacOS UI is undocumented. Holding down the key bring up hidden options in many places. You've run into several of the MacOS UI obscenities there. You can update binary plist files in terminal using the defaults command (without downloading any new software) but its neither easy nor intuitive Except even on Linux Mint when I last used it, I seem to recall, that changing the thumbnail size was easy. I just didn't realize that stuff like this was necessary on Macs too. Linux, while great in many ways, has tons of kludgy, geeky, amateur stuff like this. Please tell me there is another, easy, intuitive, not 100000% brain dead way to do this. The next time I upload a photo if I want a smaller thumbnail I can do the same thing again and it takes 1 second. Make the upload thumbnails a bit larger by selecting a larger size in the pulldown list (time to do it: 1 second): I searched on the internet and found that I should download Xcode which includes the Property List Editor: What kind of file is it? How do I edit it? I tried TextEdit, but it just displayed a mess.
Okay, I did all that and I found the file. You can then click on Library (don't let go of the Option key though!) and Finder will open the Library folder. You open Finder, click on the Go menu, hold the Option key down, and then Library will show up in the list. I discovered the very intuitive answer that, of course, everyone would normally just grok. Okay, I spent 30 minutes trying to find the Library folder. I am shaking my head in total disbelief though.
I posted on another forum and apparently no one there knows either. Apparently no one here knows how to do it.
